Workshops

The Museum offers hands-on activities with varying themes for children and families on a periodic basis. These workshops are a chance for children to experience the decorative arts hands-on and to create their own unique work to take home and treasure. Appropriate age and skill levels of participants vary with each workshop and are outlined in the description of individual events.
Please remember to wear “play” clothes as the workshop activities often involve the use of paint, glue, and other materials that may stain clothing.
Workshops are open to the public, with no charge for parents or chaperones. Reservations are usually required for workshops. Groups of fifteen or more children may schedule a private event at a mutually determined date.
Please contact Amanda Harris, Education Curator, at education@headley-whitney.org for more information.
Outreach
For those groups unable to visit the Museum, our education staff will bring its show on the road! Our staff will provide a short presentation about one type of decorative art; afterwards, your group will have the opportunity to make a craft with supplies brought by the Museum. Art That Travels is offered only on a limited basis and must be reserved at least 6 weeks in advance. Please contact Amanda Harris, Education Curator, at education@headley-whitney.org for more information.
Field Trips
School tours are tailored according to the grade of each visiting group. Teachers may also choose to call ahead to discuss specific learning objectives for their students’ visit. In addition to learning about museums and their function in society, students will also learn the meaning of “decorative art” and see many examples first hand.
The museum also offers age appropriate craft activities to further entertain and engage students. Students will leave the museum with a handmade souvenir to commemorate their trip and to reinforce the lessons learned.
Upon request space may be made available for students to eat sack lunches. Neither lunch nor refrigeration space are provided by the Museum.
Please contact Amanda Harris, Education Curator, at education@headley-whitney.org for more information.
