Be a Gem: Volunteer!

The Headley-Whitney Museum boasts a group of very talented and devoted volunteers. The Museum relies upon them for the success of our programs. The following volunteer opportunities are currently available. For more information, please contact Amanda Harris at education@headley-whitney.org.



Docents (Volunteer Tour Guides)
Docents are trained by the Museum staff about its history, permanent collections, temporary exhibitions, and grounds. Docents provide tours for visitors of all ages.

Administrative Assistance
Assists Museum staff with light clerical work, including mailings, filing, answering phones, and reception work.  It is preferable that the volunteer selects a regular day and period of time to work each week.

Special Events/Education Events
The Museum hosts many special events including exhibition openings, guest lectures, workshops, outreach programs and other education events.  These events occur year round both during the week and on weekends.  Volunteers for special events assist in a variety of ways – from answering guest’s questions to providing hands on help during arts and crafts activities. 
Special events volunteers are notified as events are scheduled and may then choose with which events they would prefer to assist. 

Horticulture
Our 13-acre grounds offer many opportunities for those who love to garden. Volunteers may help may assist on a regular schedule, for special events, or for special planting seasons.

Collections and Exhibitions
Volunteer will assist the curatorial staff with various projects associated with researching and cataloging the museum’s collection and may assist with exhibitions and other projects as needed.
